WB praises Pakistan for business-friendly reforms

ISLAMABAD: Doing business became easier in Pakistan than India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan during fiscal year 2005-06, according to Doing Business Report 2007 released here on Wednesday.
The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation have prepared the report.
In the world ranking of 175 countries, South Asia’s Maldives ranked at 53, Pakistan 74, followed by Bangladesh 88, Sri Lanka 89, Nepal 100, India 134, Bhutan 138 and Afghanistan 162.
The report states that Pakistan has been ranked at 74 in ease of doing business, 54th in starting a business, 89th dealing with licences, 126th in employing workers and 68th in registering property.
