Shrine politics leading to bloodshed

Shia-Sunni clash over shrine continues
Daily Times, October 5, 2006
KALAYA: Several people are feared dead as armed clashes between Shias and Sunnis over a disputed shrine in the Lower Orakzai Agency continued for the third day on Wednesday.

The sectarian clashes started after Sunnis took possession of a seminary and adjoining areas of the Mian Anwar Shah shrine from the Shias three days ago. Both sects are involved in intense fighting for the control of the shrine. The number of casualties was not known when this report was made at 10pm. Meanwhile, the Orakzai political administration has convened a jirga for a ceasefire between the two sects. online
