DASKA: The lack of classrooms in the Government Boys’ Primary School in Gaga, Daska, has forced students to study in a graveyard adjacent to the school. The situation depicts the negligence of the education department, contradicting the claims of federal, provincial and district governments regarding changing and developing the education sector in Sialkot. The school is only 1 km from the Daska Tehsil Headquarters. Students and teachers of the school said that they had become used to studying in the graveyard. The officials of the education department said that the upgrade of the school to middle level had been approved six years ago, but due to the non-availability of land, the project had not been implemented.

The school was set-up by local notables on self-help basis in 1979. In 1982, the provincial government took over its control. Around 400 students are enrolled in the school with only six teachers and two classrooms. Locals have expressed concern and urged the federal, provincial and district governments to take notice.
