Zia lacked intelligence’
LAHORE: Former president and army chief Gen Ziaul Haq was inclined towards hypocrisy and lacked in intelligence, Gen KM Arif, former vice chief of army staff, said on Sunday.
Speaking in Geo television’s programme ‘Jawabdeh’, Arif said it was Zia who introduced ‘Jihad fi sabilillah’ in the Pakistan Army when he was the army chief. He said that Gen Ahsan Abassi called Zia an “opportunist who used army officers for personal gains and later threw them away”. He said Zia appointed corps commander Gen Rahimuddin as governor in violation of military law. He said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was a “genius but lacked moral values and hatched conspiracies against the armed forces”. daily times monitor
