US to provide more financial, technical assistance to Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies’

WASHINGTON: US and Pakistan have agreed on further coordinate and bolster cooperation in war on terror besides curbing the other heinous crimes. US will also extend more technical and financial assistance to security and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan.

This was agreed in the meetings between interior minister Aftahb Ahmad Khan Sherpao and top US functionaries. Interior Minister held meetings with assistant state secretary for economic and commercial affairs, director FBI, coordinator on anti terrorism, assistant state secretary for anti narcotics and law enforcement and undersecretary for defence. He also attended reception hosted by assistant secretary for south and central Asia in his honor.

During the meetings, both the countries agreed on further expanding cooperation in the areas of anti terrorism. Both the sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between FBI and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan in connection with exchange of information and intelligence against terrorists for eradication of terrorism. Pakistan and US also felt need to boost the relations on several issues including war against terrorism.

The steps taken for prevention of flow of money to terrorists and scrutiny of their accounts also came under discussion. US authorities appreciated the steps taken by the interior ministry saying US will further boost the cooperation in war on terror.

Interior minister also reviewed the measures initiated to curb menaces of human and drug trafficking and told that effective legislation has been enacted in this regard.

US held out assurance it would continue to play its effective role in provision of financial assistance and consolidating the security institutions.
