Supreme Court Takes Suo Moto Notice of the Lal Masjid Crisis

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Monday taking suo moto notice of the Lal Masjid standoff issued notice to the federation.

Deputy Attorney General Tariq Khokhar and two top officials of the Crisis Management Cell will appear before the court on behalf of the federation.

Acting Chief Justice of the apex court Mr. Justice Rana Bhagwandas while taking suo moto notice of the matter constituted a two-member bench of the court comprises of Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Faqeer Muhammad Khokhar.

The apex court took the suo moto notice of the issue on a petition of Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi, in which the learned court’s attention was invited towards the incident of making the innocent children and women a human shield. The plea also informed the court about hardships of the Sector G-6 residents near the Lal Masjid.

The petition also said that ban on the movement of citizens in Sector G-6 is violation of the constitution.
